Nuisance can be unpleasant and can significantly affect your enjoyment of your home. We take every report seriously, but we can only take action if there is sufficient information and if the nuisance falls under our responsibility. Below you can read exactly what you can do yourself, what we can and cannot do, and how to submit a proper report.
What can you do yourself?
Step
First, talk to your neighbors.
Usually, neighbors are unaware that they are causing a nuisance. A brief, friendly conversation can resolve many situations immediately. This is therefore always the first step.
Step
Can't resolve the issue together?
Many municipalities offer neighborhood mediation services. Independent volunteers help to steer the conversation in the right direction. This often works better and faster than a formal complaint.
Would you like to know whether neighborhood mediation is available in your municipality? Please contact us.
-
Registering and monitoring reports.
We keep track of what is going on so that we can identify patterns and recurring nuisances. -
Addressing residents in the event of clear violations.
If there is sufficient evidence of structural, serious, or repeated nuisance, we can address the perpetrator. -
Send a written warning (if appropriate).
This is only possible if there is clear, demonstrable, and repeated nuisance. -
Refer or collaborate with authorities.
This could include the municipality, neighborhood police officer, or social workers, if necessary.
To avoid false expectations: this is not within our capabilities.
-
We do not ‘just drop by’ to intervene immediately.
We are not an enforcement agency or the police. -
We do not mediate in personal conflicts.
This is what neighborhood mediation is for. -
We do not take action without evidence or without multiple reports.
One One report is often insufficient to take formal steps. -
We do not provide feedback about measures taken to the person causing the nuisance.
This is covered by privacy legislation.
What do you need to file a good report?
-
A clear description of the nuisance
What exactly is happening? Noise, odor, behavior, litter, threats? -
Frequency and duration
When does it occur? How often? At What Times? -
Location
From which address or residence does the nuisance originate? -
Any evidence
For example, sound recordings, photos, or an incident log. This is not mandatory, but it helps enormously. -
Wheter you have already spoken to your neighbors
And what resulted from it.
With this information, we can assess whether follow-up action is possible.
